Jazzy/bluesy, slow, ambient folk. I love the trumpet in “Pins on a Line” and “Settling Pitch”. The cello and synth in “The Meat and the Marrow” are hauntingly beautiful. I find myself wishing a lot of his songs were longer because the lyrics are beautiful, and Smith’s voice could be some echo of an angel. The extra instruments (ie. trumpet, cello, organ, bells, synth, etc.) are so ideal, giving the sound that dreamy feel you get when you’ve been either asleep or awake too long but somehow still feel amazing. If you like noise, listen to track 13; if you want a little more upbeat and fun synthy tunes, check out track 14 (that one reminds me a lot of Miike Snow’s old album).
