This week on Dialogos Radio and the Dialogos Interview Series, we will be featuring an interview which will mark the one year anniversary of the Greek government’s unlawful and sudden shutdown of ERT, Greece’s national public broadcaster. We will be speaking with journalist Nikos Angelidis of ERT Open, who will talk to us about what has transpired over the past year, how many of ERT’s former employees have managed to keep ERT alive with continuous television and radio broadcasts all throughout the past year, about the continued legal and financial hurdles which they face, and about the scandals which represent the real reasons behind the government’s desire to shut down ERT, to launch new “public” broadcaster NERIT, and to grant a nationwide monopoly of digital television transmitters to one private company, DIGEA, a consortium of Greece’s six largest private television stations. In addition to this interview, we will add our own brief commentary about the shutdown of ERT and about the continued decline of freedom of speech and of the press and media in Greece.
