On Friday, Febuary 22, PBS will air a special documentary on Sister Rosetta Tharpe titled "The Godmother of Rock and Roll". So in honor of this ocasion, I have decided that I would explain to everyone reading this why I think that Sister Rosetta Tharpe may in fact be the most influential, if not one of the greatest, musicians to have ever lived.
CommentsFor some, Imam Baildi is the name of a tasty Greek dish featuring baked eggplant, stuffed with tomato, onion, and garlic (meat and cheese are optional).
CommentsIf you are a frequent listener of my show, then you know that Metal Storm is my go-to source for metal news. Every February, voting for the Metal Storm Awards opens up, and members of the site vote for their favorite metal releases of the previous year. Because my show focuses on symphonic metal, I played songs from the nominated albums last week. Sadly, my favorite symphonic metal album of 2012 was not nominated. In my opinion, however, Epica's Requiem for the Indifferent was the best symphonic metal album of 2012 if not the best metal album of 2012. As the band has progressed in their career, the riffs have gotten heavier and more rhythmic, but the bombastic symphonic and choral elements remain as strong as ever. Requiem for the Indifferent features grandiose metal epics, memorable symphonic metal tracks, and perhaps the band's most radio-friendly single to date -- all in all, their strongest album to date. Here is a music video for the first single from the album. For the more epic tracks, go pick up a copy from your favorite music retailer.
CommentsIf you are a frequent listener of my show, you will recall that I get most of my metal news from Metal Storm. Every year, February the first (today!) marks the first day of voting in the Metal Storm Awards.
CommentsHappy new year, dear friends. After a semester's absence, I am once again a KVRX DJ. My first regularly-scheduled show is tonight at 8pm cst, and I'm going to share my top 5 songs of 2012 with you. If you can't tune in, here they are, along with some fun facts. (If you're a regular listener of my show, you know I love me some fun facts.) I tend to gravitate towards heavy metal with great melodies, so that's what you can expect from these songs. And if you like what you hear, tune in every Friday night at 8pm cst so we can be radio buddies. Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year!
CommentsThis week's episode of Artist Hour is one that I am most excited for, but also a bit apprehensive. Versus is overlooked for the same reasons that I find it so compelling.
