Stoner Metal/Jazz insanity! When you can’t decide if you would rather
play Jazzy stand up bass or rock out to some sweet Stoner Metal, the
Melvins provide both simultaneously. This isn’t the potential “loudest
show ever” two drummer set up the Melvins have been performing as
recently. This time around there is only one drummer and an electric
bass player is switched for Trevor Dunn from Mr. Bungle on stand
up bass. Being referred to as Melvins Lite, this edition of the band’s
sound switches between atmospheric (Honky minus the electronics?
) provided by the stand up bass, typical Melvins fare, and some very
intriguing stand up bass + slower Melvins riffs. A surprising change
for the Melvins to go, but any real Melvins fan knows that that is not
surprising at all, definitely recommended.
