On this week's Artist Hour (Saturday, 10 PM) we will be exploring the vast catologue of London's Wire. Pink Flag (1977) has been called one of the most original debuts to come out of England's punk-scene and have released 12 albums through 2011 and plan to release a new album "Change Becomes Us" in March 2013. We will sample the straight-forward punk of "Pink Flag" to the extreme studio experimentation of "The Drill" and everything in between. Wire has devoted itself to an adherence to it's "rules of negative self-definition," drafted with the release of Pink Flag and has succeeded in doing so in the studio and on tour. Given their near continuous output and longevity, it's surprising how little recognition they get, despite being influences of such monumental acts as Sonic Youth, R.E.M. and The Minutemen.
