Hey! DJ Scoot here. I'm starting a new tradition here. Since I run Lone Star Lullabies, I figured it would be helpful to both listeners and bands to write about some of my favorite Texas bands. So, every week before Lone Star Lullabies, you'll see a post here focusing on a different Texas band. The first band we'll be focusing on is Borzoi from right here in Austin.
Borzoi is a brand spankin’ new post-punk band. They’re pretty sick. Rhys and Taylor originally played drums and bass respectively for Da Di Da. They just released their debut EP, Dogs of the Matriarchy, on SoundCloud for free. Their sound reminds me of Minutemen, with hints of Bleach-era Nirvana. Discordant, distorted guitars buzz erratically over heavy, driving, and yet dancey basslines. My favorite song of theirs, “Ubasute”, hasn’t been recorded yet, but their EP is damn good and I highly recommend giving it a listen. Check out their live show if you can as well.
