Be Forest was formed in the town of Pesaro, Italy along the Adriatic coast as a trio. For the sophomore effort, Earthbeat, they picked up fourth member, Lorenzo Badioli with the intention of adding a new electronic aspect to the band. A dreamy atmosphere interspersed with warm vibes surrounds the record. I would compare their temperate sound to The xx or Beach Fossils.
“In its spare time, Moonbather enjoys pining at the beach, waking up from bad dreams, and childhood.”
Out of the Start is the newest release from the Dallas, TX dream pop duo, Moonbather. The EP is composed of floating synths, delicately plucked guitars, sharp drums, and gentle vocals soaked in Caleb Campbell and Teddy Waggy’s lyrics. Out of the Start has a lot to offer in the chillwave // dream pop department and this EP is a sublime taste of what they could accomplish on a full record.
For the new record, Justin Vallesteros put the guitar down, detached himself from the constant attention we give modern day electronics and picked up playing piano. He moved back home after an uninspiring stint in San Francisco to help find further solace. The album is the dreamy product of introspection and a recovered bout of writer’s block; it doesn’t sound as poppy or upbeat as past work, which isn’t surprising considering what he was probably going through. The songs seem more carefully crafted and sophisticated than previous efforts. Craft Spells proves that Pavement isn’t the only worthwhile band to come out of Stockton, CA.
