OPN has created his own genre at this point, and this album expands on it yet again. This album is a wild ride, and this is exactly what Daniel wants. This is his most ambitious album yet and anyone who is familiar with his previous albums with be suprised by this one. When you compare it to Replica and R Plus Seven's almost angelic tones, this album takes those elements and filters them through a cocaine filled rock concert. The album has certain points where it feels like a breakcore album, but yet it has other moments where it almost feels like a disintegrated pop album. The samples on this album are unreal. Tracks like Ezra add these beautiful add these beautiful guitar tones while tracks like Mutant Standard are techno perfection. There is a certain mood to this album and it is a very interesting album, especially when coming from OPN. This is definitely worth a listen, regardless of what genre your show is.
Under the moniker Made of Oak, Nicholas Sunburn of Sylvan Esso has put out his first EP (this being it). If you took the synthyness of Sylvan Esso and replaced the vocals with layers of textures and other fun things to do with a controller, you would get this EP. Everything about Penumbra shouts "ambient!!!" Check out track 3 where he uses a musical box sample; it sounds dreamy, hazy, and mildly eerie. Smooth, easy listening for a rainy Sunday morning.
Bevan Smith aka Introverted Dancefloor is for anyone who likes RUGUS, period. Track 3 'take it high' is a sort of psychedelic/electronic/dance and gets special props along with 5 'Even if You Try'. From 11 onwards things get a little trancier track but the vocal style ensures the album never strays too far from Rufus. Likey lots, A
This album is something you would consider to be very interesting if you are interested into the 80's style music. It sounds like something that would be in the film, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" with its drums and synths that give that vibe. The songs are really chill, relaxing, yet not over done. I recommend playing this CD to anyone who wants something to listen to while they study. What caught my attention most was that, the album cover will throw you off track by assuming that the group is a hip hop, hardcore, gang oriented , drug selling team. Then, you put the CD into your laptop or radio and you get the most chill music.
