BBNG made waves with their jazz covers of hip hop instrumentals from Nas to Earl Sweatshirt to Kanye & more on their first 2 albums, and with this, their 3rd full-length release, they integrate their influences into all original compositions. The trio of drummer, bassist, & electric keys makes for a powerful core of highly skilled musicians that have been, and continue to work together exceedingly well. Each piece on this LP is produced pristinely & performed tightly, cemented by the group’s ability to just f’n GROOVE man.
Reality Testing is an invigorating blend of classic sampling style, analog synths, and deep grooves. Alternating between syncopated four-on-the-floor house rhythms and old-school boom bap beats, complete with Lone’s signature lushly layered production of uplifting chord progressions, analog synth lines and deep bass, the LP shows Lone’s ability to keep his sound fresh & kinetic at a variety of tempos.
This EP is full of hard hitting, head-nodding hip hop beats. Tracks 1, 2 & 4 are more bouncy & synth-heavy, while 3, 5 & 6 are more classically-sampled boom bap bangers. Minimal compositions, heavy kick drums on every track. Very similar in style to ATX’s own BoomBaptist. Killer grooves on this one.
