Lia Ices crafts gentle and shimmering pop songs with a ton of different influences all mashed together. At any time on this record yr likely to hear stuff like Persian percussion accompanied by hi fi synthesizers or hints of Pakistani pop. The record has a very spacey and floating sound to it that comes from vocalist Lia Ices’ affinity for technology and “sounds of future ships sailing through
the vastness of space”.
Encyclopedia marks The Drums first LP in three years and a departure from the lighter surf tunes on the previous albums. This one still has its bright moments but is overall a lot darker and emotional than the other stuff. There are a few songs that come of as filler but the couple of standout tracks are very tight.
The Drums is now composed of only founding members Jonathan Pierce and Jacob Graham along with a few touring members.
