Love, A Bittersweet Chocolate
by admin ~ February 12th, 2008. Filed under: Episodes.Tomorrow on In The Know, we’re talking about Love.
Why does everyone want it? What’s the big freakin’ deal about finding a mate? Is it about reproduction or companionship?
We’ll talk about how corporate America is capitalizing on it. And, how women, who are expected to be underweight in this country to conform to idealized beauty standards, are given chocolate on this day by people interested in them which may lead to plummeting self esteem, and increased gym attendance.
Ideas about the origin of V-Day differ from country to country. Some say the day commemorates the day when birds start to mate. Gives credence to the ol’ birds and the bees talk. Others say it has to do with a guy named Valentine who fell into forbidden love and wrote a letter to the girl signed, “from your Valentine.” Valentine’s day comes from his name and the day he died.
It seems like the most directly influential country to America, Great Britain, started the trend of friends and luhvahs passing notes to each other with gifts.
The Greeting Card Association says one billion Valentine’s day cards will be exchanged. It also says more than 80 percent of those are bought by women. I’m skeptical and yet able to believe that.
Why do you see the color red everywhere? Is it because the sexual swellings of female primates in estrus are red and this is a male dominated society? So seeing red equates to thoughts of sex?
Is love just an addiction?
We’ll take calls about the worst and best Valentine’s day ever.
Most touching story gets the giveaway of the day. Not sure what that is yet. You’ll have to listen and find out.
Listen to In The Know Wednesday night from 7-8 on 91.7 FM or online at kvrx.org.

Last year I told my girlfriend I was going to postpone our Valentine’s Day dinner because I had work to do at TSTV. Guess how much longer that relationship lasted? (2 1/2 weeks)
My sketchy priorities aside, I think we should do affectionate things for our significant others year-round so they don’t place so much importance on a single day of the year because of peer pressure and all that. Happy V-Day guys!

Congrats to Alyssa Estrada for the grossest V-day story! She won a spot on the When Roots Attack Reggae Benefit guest list for her and a plus one. It’s this Friday at 9.
Download the show to hear her story. (I’ll post that asap. I’m converting it into .mp3 right now) -V

I heard the first half of the show, pretty good! Sorry though, no comments. All my V-Day’s have been pretty average. I guess it comes from what you expect the day to be. Although, candy is good - like Halloween Jr., almost.

Thanks. I expect my day to fly by like that. *snap* If I’m lucky, I’ll make some time to get something to eat. I have two very ripe bananas in my ‘fridge and that’s it. Happy Me Day.
