Capitalism vs. Socialism
by Abhinav Kumar ~ April 20th, 2008. Filed under: DJ Blog, Episodes. This week on In the Know: a sensational discussion about CvS (not the store). Reply with your thoughts and comments, so we can talk about them on the show. Help us help you get in the know this Wednesday, at 7PM, on 91.7FM KVRX.

In which direction should our city, state, country be headed - money and power in private hands or in the state’s hands? And what’s the best way to get there? We’ll take a look at the past and those who shaped our beliefs. And, of course, what our current political structure will allow.
More importantly, we’ll take a step away from the stereotypically academic discussions with which these topics are associated, and instead, we’ll focus on how these economic systems apply to real life. How should you live if you’re a capitalist? A socialist? How should American society function - Democrats, Republicans, Neither, etc?
Sell a man a fish he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and you’ve ruined a wonderful business opportunity.
- Karl Marx
No country in the world is purely socialist or purely capitalist. Huddle ’round the warm glows of the radio with your family, friends, and loved ones as we journey into the ‘morality’ of each system.
For centuries, the battle of morality was fought between those who claimed that your life belongs to God and those who claimed that it belongs to your neighbors…and no one came to say that your life belongs to you and that the good is to live it.
- Ayn Rand
What do you think? Is the “great experiment” over? Have we failed in the face of economic recessions, war, health, and money? Or do we need a readjustment? Tell us. Ask us. Debate us. Convince us.

I think that everyone should have health care, even if you can’t afford it. So, what we need in the United states is change. Change for the better and I’m not talking about the ‘bandwagon’ change that comes with speeches. We need health care for EVERY child.

Do you think that health care, even if you can’t afford it, should come at the expense of someone else, even if that someone else can’t afford it?

Or, why just for every child? Why not for everyone who lives in the most powerful country in the history of the world?

I agree that everyone, children and adults, should have access to health care. Unfortunately, in a capitalist country the idea of altruism isn’t practiced as much as it is preached. Many merely attempt to fund an elevation in their lifestyle. Even if health care became a federal or state funded program, along what lines would it be distributed? Would you have to take it if your employer already provides it to you? More than likely it would become stigmatized the same way welfare is.

We’re not capitalist.
The more local, the better.
