Super Furry Animals (acoustic solo), 17 Feb 2004
  http://www.superfurry.com/

Originally we expected the entire band to arrive, but we got a great surprise solo performance instead. Grif played a few songs from the Super Furry's Phantom Power release. His 'accompanist' was a mysterious electronic box called the Raagini, droning away endlessly like some form of audio incense.

After the show, the small studio audience was stunned by what a cool guy we'd just met. Best wishes, Grif!

Track three is Gwreiddiau Dwfn from the Mwng album, and six is Piccolo Snare from Phantom Power. No idea where you got the idea that the Welsh dialect/language has been banned in the UK though!
eric :: kvrx :: eric1@mail.utexas.edu :: 9 Aug 2004 @ 11:19:35
I think they banned it because it has words with no vowels! No, really, Grif told us a story about Welsh that involved some effort by the government to discourage its use. Is that at least true?
eric :: kvrx :: :: 9 Aug 2004 @ 19:41:50
Aha! Thanks for the interesting link, Prof. Ken. I added two other Welsh songs from Grif's set. There's a little distortion on Track 2 but I don't notice it after listening over and over... Enjoy! Do you know their titles?

Lovely. It's always wonderful to hear Gruff's acoustic sets.
hooly :: Eire :: hooly@eircom.net :: 11 Aug 2004 @ 15:55:58 :: 5 (out of 5)
Track 1 is Nythod Cacwn and Track 2 is Cryndod Yn Dy Lais - both from Mwng. Great recordings, thanks.

Nythod Cacwn means hornets nest and is also on the Furries Welsh Albwm 'Mwng' which is available to buy on line from their own label Placid Casual. New best of album and dvd are to be released soon. Cryndod Yn Dy Lais is a rarer Furry track, I think it's on the 'Mwng 2' EP... dunno what it means, (I'm not Welsh). Welsh is a lovely language from a breathtaking country and is definately NOT banned!
hooly :: Eire :: :: 16 Aug 2004 @ 15:59:19
the US release of Mwng had 2 Cds in it. The 1st same as the UK/Eire release and the 2nd had Cryndod Yn Dy Lais Trons Mr Urdd Calimero Sali Mali (Nid) Hon Yw'r Gan Sy'n Mynd I Achub Yr Laitl on it. The US seemed to get a lot of 2CD releases for some reason..
hooly :: eire :: :: 16 Aug 2004 @ 16:01:56
oops missing some comma's there after lais, Urdd, Mali, Laitl.
Anonymous Coward :: :: :: 16 Aug 2004 @ 16:04:38
sorry again...ill just repost titles. Cryndod Yn Dy Lais / Trons Mr Urdd / Calimero / Sali Mali / (Nid) Hon Yw'r Gan Sy'n Mynd I Achub Yr Laitl

Excellent, I saw Super Furries playing my home town last week, the first time I've heard Cryndod yn dy lais, it was like Gruff weaving a spell over the whole crowd. Arbennig.

The very fact that you posted 4 downloads tells us that you love us Eric! Could you love us a little more, y'know about 2 tracks worth of good Texan Lovin'? Please. Here's a bit of Furry news - Gruff is to release a solo album on 'Placid Casual' label in UK in January 2005, a seventh studio album will also be released in Spring 2005 and a retrospective singles album called 'Songbook' is to be released in UK on limited CD and DVD on October 4th... sorry no US dates. Nice versions... the Welsh language is actually encouraged by the government and taught in schools, not banned at all...
thomas :: scotland :: thomasowenled@hotmail.com :: 1 Feb 2005 @ 12:53:33

Elen :: :: :: 25 Mar 2005 @ 08:44:57 :: 5 (out of 5)
hooly; The actual title is, Nid hon yw'r gan sy mynd i achub yr Iaith, not Laitl. Iaith means Language. No idea what Lait means, it doesn't exist in welsh!

2. "Cryndod Yn Dy Lais" - was originally a b-side on the CD single of "play it cool" from the radiator album.

"Cryndod yn dy lais" is so amazingly beautiful. I've never heard the original, could anyone send it to me?
Shane :: Newport, Wales :: cheechmoran@hotmail.co.uk :: 9 Nov 2005 @ 05:54:30 :: 5 (out of 5)
Excellent work. I've met Gruff on many occassion in my hometown and in Cardiff where he lives. After watching Derrero in le pub Newport one night in 1998, all the guys from SFA were watching the gig, we got talking and he took my number and address and a few days later i had a parcel in the post with 6 white vinyl Ltd Edition 12" singles in and a note from Gruff saying if i needed some money, i could 'sell them down the market'!!!! - What a great bloke ( i still have them by the way!) Cryndod yn dy lais is a b-side to an early single, i'll dig it out and send it to you Sally, it's awesome, funny, as Gruff cocks the start up and starts again but they didn't edit it out!

Bright Eyes took Gruff to Bonnaroo! in Tennesse, USA. Its a huge three day festival, probably more than 100,000 people. He played "Hello Sunshine" solo acoustic while Bright Eyes took a break. He stayed on stage and played electric guitar with Bright Eyes for a few. I was lucky enough to catch the live video stream just in time.
