Gary Primich, one of the world's greatest blues harmonica players, singers, and songwriters, passed away on September 23rd. Not only was he one of the blues' finest talents, he was also a wonderful musical tutor and friend to me. I was introduced to his music many years before moving to Austin, and always jumped at the chance to see him perform when he toured through California. I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to get to know him over the last two years here in Austin.
His passing has come as a great shock, and anyone who has come to love his energetic, soulful performances at Jo's Coffee, Guero's Taco Bar, and the occasional impromptu gig at TC's Lounge on the East Side knows what a special talent Primich was.
In honor of Gary I will be dedicating a large portion of my program this week to his life and music. Tune in to Blues At Sunrise this Wednesday, 09/26, from 7-9 AM.
We miss you already Gary, you will always be one of the best.
