Special Joe Gibbs tribute tonight on When Roots Attack!

The legendary Jamaican producer, Joel Gibson, better known as Joe Gibbs, passed away last Thursday. A gifted producer, Gibbs was also a major player in the business side of late 70s reggae scene as he owned his own studio and record label. The Joe Gibbs Studio featured some of Kingston's best session musicians at the time including drummer Sly Dunbar, bassist Robbie Shakespeare, and guitarist Earl "Chinna" Smith. Gibbs, along with the great engineer/producer Errol Thompson (aka E.T.), formed a partnership known as The Mighty Two and worked with all of the elite performers of the day including Black Uhuru, Culture, Trinity, Big Youth, and most notably Dennis Brown. Gibbs had a hand in some of the very best music these musicians ever recorded while producing over 100 Jamaican #1 hits. In light of his recent passing, tonight on "When Roots Attack!", I will be showcasing some of Joe Gibbs' many reggae masterpieces.

RIP Joe Gibbs

Here's a show I did featuring the sounds of Joe Gibbs and Errol Thompson...
