Bump music for today's Friday Hangover was provided by Denver's former trio Bright Channel. BC was formed by Jeff and Shannon from late-90s space rock outfit Volplane on the Flight Approved label. They added drummer Brian Banks and the new band was formed in 2002. With Bright Channel they kept some of the space themes and layered on a thicker, more distorted sound. They didn't tour much outside of Colorado, save for a few SXSW dates notably in 2006 and a couple of shows in LA supporting Brian Jonestown Massacre.
I came across them through Myspace affiliation with other Denver bands and picked up their self-titled 2004 release and 2006 sophomore effort Self-Propelled while in Colorado a couple of years ago. I finally got to see them live in Denver over the summer on my way back from a westward road trip. They played a strong set at a local club. The next night, they opened for the Fray at Red Rocks. Within a month, they had gone on indefinite hiatus. Huh.
Currently, Jeff and Shannon are working on new songs for their older, more ambient project Pteranodon. Also, they've got something new called Moonspeed in the works. For now, you can check them out and hold out hope that BC may restart someday. Maybe I can pay them to play my eventual wedding.
