Forty Acres Fest + Octopus Project?

Submitted by alicia on Wed, 04/02/2008 - 01:27.

Does anyone else find it amusing that The Octopus Project will be opening for The Roots at this year's brofest (40acres)? Especially considering that they played KVRX's pledge drive last spring in the CMC plaza with a quite dismal turnout. Of course that's not a 1:1 comparison, but still. What a difference a year makes.

It just seems odd I suppose.

the turn out was prolly

the turn out was prolly "dismal" because you didn't promote it well. (go figure) you have your head up your ass if you don;t realize what a draw taht octopus project has around the world. they have been playing kvrx events for years and are did you a favor playing at the CMC.

wait

wait... did the Octopus Project play at KVRX's pledge drive last spring? I don't recall. Regardless, Octopus Project can pack Emos outside, so they've got clout.

I didnt think octopussies

I didnt think octopussies could type. and they have no such heads or asses to intertwine. not very clever, fan/band member; just like their music.

what?

I am pretty sure they didn't play pledge drive last year

If they did and the turnout was dismal, then we did a REALLY bad job promoting it. I didn't even hear of it! And I was there almost every day! Every Octo P show I've been to for the past three years, free and paid, they've always been packed. They played Noise Pop and Coachella last year!!! I hope this isn't true. Maybe old April Fools joke?

40 acres

The Octopus Project did not play last years KVRX pledge drive show in the CMC plaza.

They have already played Cochella and other stuff that is big in the past. I really don't recognize 40 acres fest as any achievement of greatness for any band. If anything it just means a bunch of pot smoking dude bros going to see the Roots (hip hops answer to Dave Matthews) play and they'll have to endure the experimental music of The Octopus Project.
Props to 40 acres fest for not getting Little Richard, that shit is tired. The Octopus Project may be the first good band 40 acres fest has ever booked, their fest usually sucks real bad.

I find it hilarious that

I find it hilarious that anyone even read this post, let alone commented on it. But I guess that was intentional...ooooh controversy.

Anyway, they have been a popular band for a while now, especially in Austin. The point was that 40 acres fest is lame and filled with bros and so it will be funny to see The Octopus Project play to that crowd. At the same time I don't think that if I were in a band I would want to play the 40 acres fest without having a headlining band that I like/support or that would draw a similar audience. Just sayin'.

On another note: Dear first commenter, please finish high school in order to learn basic English grammar and spelling. Also, please grow up. Thank you.

I don't see what's so

I don't see what's so hilarious about it, that's the point of the blog feature on this website.

I think you're forgetting that the post is really pretty negative. The Octopus Project have supported KVRX quite a bit in the past, but you're implying that nobody came to the pledge drive show because they aren't much good. Except that, they didn't even play the pledge drive show, so that's an erroneous statement on your part. Furthermore, the CMC shows last spring were poorly promoted (or maybe it was just a bad idea). Compare the Fancy Feast show there to the Mohawk show, for example.

Despite the lack of comments on most posts, the KVRX website generates a pretty large amount of hits. You never know who might be reading, consider the Fun Fun Fun Fest fiasco for example. And that was just an honest opinion. This is just flagrantly wrong and it makes us look bad.

Also, I don't see the point of attacking 40 acres fest, especially on behalf of KVRX. Fellow students work hard on this free event and I applaud the effort. Just because it's NOT my cup of tea doesn't mean I have to knock it. Furthermore, as far as picking mainstream acts, I think they've done a pretty decent, dare I say diverse (something completely lacking at the station) job. I don't blame Octopus Project for playing there. They're probably getting paid a nice sum of money for the shot at appealing to a wider audience than a bunch of pretentious yuppie hipsters. Octo P are a very hard working band that actually make good music, they deserve the best success.

I have never been a fan of

I have never been a fan of The Octopus Project, first of all, because I think that they rip off what a lot of other bands do a lot better. I refuse to support a band just because they are from Austin, which some people believes makes a band better or more credible, even though that is not true. While I didn't say that outright in my post, maybe that is why it seems "negative". I have a right to express MY opinion on the blogs, even if that may involve a fantasized story (and check that date, hmm, seems it was late night on the 1st). I think that you should probably chill and not get worked up over the fact that someone might think that something needs to be knocked. Not everyone supports the bands that you do. That's all. And really, my post wasn't even that negative, considering the only words I used were "amusing" and "odd". Also, just so everyone knows, I was not the promotions director until last summer. We didn't even have a promotions director at that. So I did not have anything to do with the CMC show last spring, as it seems some of you are implying. This is the final comment I will be leaving on this topic, as I feel it is a complete waste of time and energy. Get over it.

True, I love Octopus

True, I love Octopus Project. But biased opinion aside, my point was, your initial post was based on an erroneous assumption. Therefore, making the rest of it a moot point. And instead of correcting it, you just attacked everyone who commented on it and then attacked the Octopus Project. Which is very confusing. Anyway, perhaps better fact checking in the future is in order? Just sayin'.

And sorry if this was a waste of your time, but if that was the case, why make a blog post anyway? Hm. The internet is a complete waste of time an energy, that's why it's so awesome.

P.S. "dismal" is a negative word
