Diverse Arts Culture Works, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the multicultural arts scene in Austin, presents a special program at the Historic Victory Grill on 1104 E. 11th St. First, Diverse Arts founder and director Harold McMillan will be screening the 30-minute documentary "Austin Texas: East Side Blues." After the screening, McMillan will be joined by Martha Norkunas, a professor of oral history at the University of Texas, for an open discussion about the effects of gentrification on East Austin's blues scene. A live performance by the Texas Eastside Kings, featuring Austin blues icons Henry "Bluesboy" Hubbard and Donald "Duck" Jennings, follows the discussion and screening.
Recommended donation at the door of $5 to $10. Doors open at 7:00 PM and the screening begins at 8:00.
