John McCain's Racism

Submitted by upstreamradio on Fri, 08/29/2008 - 12:22.

This week on Upstream we spoke with Irwin Tang about his latest book, Gook: John McCain's Racism and Why It Matters.

"The portrait of John McCain painted in Gook is far more disturbing than any racial epithet. A central thesis of Gook: war fertilizes racism, and racism justifies wars and the killing of civilians. This dynamic thrives within the most dangerous leaders of the world. Is John McCain one of them?"

Regardless of whether you participate in the existing electoral system, support Senator Obama, or thought you didn't care two shakes of a lamb's tail about John McCain, we highly recommend this read. (See below for Irwin's more extensive bio or go to http://www.irwinbooks.com/?page_id=3). Tang's eloquence and passion are demonstrated throughout the book and were reinforced in the studio. If you have an opportunity to see him speak, we definitely encourage you to attend. He will be at Monkey Wrench Books On Sept 11th. See his website for details.
