Watch Out, Bikers

Submitted by Mars on September 26, 2008 - 5:18pm
I know a lot of KVRXers, djs and listeners alike, are awesome and ride bikes. So in case you didn't hear, the UTPD announced they are going to crack down on bike riders on campus. So be weary of citations and harassment. I for one am glad the UTPD is taking some action on this pressing matter, because it's not like we have an armed robbery problem or anything that they police should be focusing on. Here's the announcement that came out on Campus Watch, which emails a daily update of all the illegal things that have happened on campus the day before, interspersed with bad jokes. * * * * * ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE * * * * * Bicyclists Since the beginning of the semester the University of Texas Police Department has been receiving complaints and concerns about the bicycle traffic and safety on campus. Beginning today, the UT Police Department and Travis County Sheriffs' Department will begin traffic enforcement aimed at bicyclists disregarding State traffic laws. Citations will include, but are not limited to: Running Stop Signs, Failure to Yield Right of Way to Pedestrians, and Traveling Left of Center. Pedestrians, this is also a reminder for you as well. There are areas of campus that are currently under construction, you need to stay out of the roadway. The Travis County Sheriffs' Department will be working the intersection of 24th Street and Speedway to assist with construction traffic.

Sure, they can crack down on

Sure, they can crack down on bike riders and give them tickets. And all those cameras all around the dorms? Great use for monitoring who you're sneaking in at 11:31 pm and getting you in trouble for it by sunrise. But when some crazy random druggies/crack dealers/general criminals decided to enter a fully-camera'd-from-all-sides courtyard that you need either a student ID or someone holding the door for you to enter and steal half the bikes locked up there, including my own - not only does the dorm and UT refuse to work with you, but even the police ignore your complaint by not filing a report when you tell them to.

Seriously. Perp is on camera. Student/Staff who let them in slid his/her card, also a violation, and is therefore identifiable. time of crime is pinned down. but NOOOO, God forbid 20 year olds aren't in bed by midnight.

Fuck the pigs.
