The emo revolution is upon us in 2009. Some of the biggest bands of second wave emo are getting back together for tours and are re-releasing albums. On December 12th 2008 The Get Up Kids re-released their first album "Four Minute Mile"(1997). In January 2009 they re-released their second album "Something to Write Home About"(1999). The Get Up Kids broke up in 2005 but recently reunited to do a US tour. They will playing Austin on November 18th at Emos, and San Antonio on September 29th. Sunny Day Real Estate just re-released their first two albums,"Diary"(1994) and LP2(1995), on September 15th 2009. They are doing an US and European tour. They will be playing Austin on October 7th at La Zona Rosa. For those of you who are keeping up with Dave Grohl content, two members of Sunny Day Real Estate played with Grohl in The Foo Fighters. The other major news of 2009 for emo music is that Polyvinyl is planning to re-release multiple Braid releases including "Frankie Welfare Boy Age 5" (1995) and "The Age of Octeen" (1996). Does that mean possible reunion in the near future? Let's all hope so. The entire discography of the first wave emo band One Last Wish was re-released by Dischord Records in January of 2009. The other big emo band to do a re-release of sorts this year was Ordination of Aaron, they released a complete discography in the spring of 2009 on Adagio 830 Records.
I predict a major emo resurgence in the coming months. More and more of the bands are re releasing records for the first time ever in 2009 along with all the reunion tours. Hopefully this is a beacon for past emo bands to follow suit, guys like Chris Simpson of Mineral I'm talking to you. Hopefully new bands will start forming and maybe a possible 3rd wave of emo might come out of this.

Psshh Yeah
Revolution?
More like 'Emo Nostalgia in 2009.' (The revolution will not be emo-fied.)
