Vagina Dialogues

Today on The Vagina Dialogues we will be speaking to a couple of nonprofits, Safeplace and Latinitas . Safeplace is Austin's women's shelter, they provide a number of services to women in the community and strive to end domestic violence through social change. Latinitas is an Austin organization that is working towards empowering hispanic girls through media and technology, it started as the result of a Media Studies class at UT!

Jena 6 Information and Updates

The story of the Jena Six is receiving public attention, primarily because the case is so clearly wrought with racism and injustice. For more information on the criminal (in)justice system, try http://www.prisonactivist.org. To receive updates about the Jena Six, go to www.colorofchange.org and check their page or (more current) receive email updates from the folks there.

September 21st was a National Day of Action for the Jena Six, with tens of thousands of people rallying in support of the young men accused of attempted murder in Jena and across the nation.

Ecology Action: Democratically Run, Austin Grassroots Essential

Volunteer opportunities are available at different venues that Eco-Action works, like Stubbs, for example:

John Clement from Ecology Action was on Upstream to talk about the history of Eco-Action, its grassroots... rooots, and how services are going to expand soon. Ecology Action is a democratically-run organization that provides recycling drop-off sites around Austin and was born out of the late 60's surge in earth-consciousness and hippie love and has evolved in to an organization that embraces the same philosophies while serving our community.
